2 March 2009
(UPDATED) Several MEPs hosted an event on Tuesday 3 March in the European Parliament to consider CO2 emission performance standards in the context of the new Industrial Emisssions (IPPC) Directive (IED). Details are contained in this poster and in these amendments.
The new IED regime will see the merger of the 1996 IPPC directive, the 2001 Large Combustion Plant Directive (LCPD) and five other exsiting laws into a single new act. Whereas the IPPC regime contains many performance standards (‘limit values’) for other pollutants, it does not yet do so for CO2.
The IPPC proposal is due for a plenary 1st reading on 11-12 March, while the CZ presidency aims to reach a common position in Council by June. The expected second reading will be in autumn 2009 or spring 2010.
